when you look me in the eyes and tell me that you love me Just two years of life can make everything change. If the last seven hundred and thirty days had taught Keefe anything, that was it. The nineteen-year-old readjusted the silver-rimmed glasses he hadn't yet grown out of, a reflective smile curling his lips. He wasn't living with his father anymore; the morning he and Cormac turned eighteen, the boys had packed up their things and left. Neither of them had seen Finn since, and it was the most freeing thing they'd ever done. No more bruises, no more names, no more abuse. Naturally, Nathaniel had allowed Keefe to move in with him; for a year now, the pair had been living happily together.
But Cormac...Keefe felt a slight tug down on the corners of his mouth when he thought of his brother. The poor boy had gone through more pain than he deserved. Back when they were still seventeen, Cormac had endured the worst of losses. Keefe still felt his heart break in two for his twin just thinking of the call he'd gotten in the middle of the night. "Ah me God, Key...Oi swear Oi didn't mean ter...it wus an accident...she's dead, Key. Oi killed 'er. Ah've got 'er blud on me fuckin' 'ands, Key..." It had been an accident, a mere miscalculation. But that tiny mistake had cost the girl Cormac loved her life, and he would never, ever forgive himself for that.
But then again, he'd decided to pursue his dream of becoming a musician, too. It was something he could bury himself in, the music. Without Finn to stop him anymore, he was free to sing and play to his heart's content. He'd met someone on the road because of it as well, called Jordanna. Sweet girl, pretty too. Keefe couldn't help but hope that she would help mend his brother's heart and that Cormac would let her. Of course, now that Nathaniel had gone back to touring and with Cormac now going from concert to concert, the spectacled boy was unbearably lonely at home. All he could do was listen to the radio, hoping for one of his lover's songs to come on, and study.
Speaking in hushed, urgent tones, Keefe convinced one of the stage technicians to let him borrow a microphone and meandered on stage. He'd told himself he would wait to do this until after he'd graduated and finished his academy work. But he couldn't wait any longer. He missed Nathaniel so fucking much. It wasn't enough to call him his boyfriend anymore. He needed to make him rightfully his. Forever. "'ey, 'ey!" Although he's lived in the United States for a few years now, his accent was strong as ever. The gathering crowd instantly acknowledged him; they knew him now, his connection to Nathaniel. "Can Oi 'ave yisser attenshun, please?"
Immediately he had it. Keefe was still rather unused to the idea that complete strangers wanted to hear what he had to say, but the only sign of tension he gave was the awkward clearing of his throat. "Oi'm gonna surprise Nathaniel t'nite, but Oi nade yisser 'elp. Oi canny really say what de surprise unless 'e catches wind av it before 'e gets oyt 'ere, but if ye 'elp me, Oi promise de both av us 'ill be grateful." He couldn't help but smile, broader and wider than he had in months. "Sum av ye 'ave signs under yisser seats. Please...'auld dem up whaen Oi gi'e a signal layra. T'anks." And with that, the young Irishman waved, then disappeared backstage again.
Tonight was going to be the best night of their lives.

Two years. Two years since his life had been turned around forever, two years since he seemed to start anew, and one year since he'd had his break. Nathaniel Kennedy was usually a strong person and didn't like anyone or anything tear him down, but today he'd been down. Out of all the days to have a concert, he had to have one scheduled on Valentines day. Not that it wasn't exactly a bad thing, but Nate'd rather be at home with his boyfriend making sweet love rather than playing a concert for a thousand pubescent teenage girls. He sat in the back of his limo humming along with the tune of his own songs as he made sure he knew all the words to his new album. He hated forgetting the lyrics to his songs. The embarrassment was not something he liked.
Finally arriving at the venue, Nate smiled as he turned off his iPOD. He looked out at the large building, listening to the screams that he could hear through the tinted windows of the limo, just drinking it all in. He waited until the driver stopped the car before putting on his game face and stepping out of the limo, smiling as he came face to face with a couple hundred screaming fans. The young pop-sensation, fixed the collar on his jacket as he made his way through the crowd, signing autographs and taking quick photos with the fans. This was what he lived for. Of course he loved the music, and the lights and the attention, but the fans was what made him get up every day of this tour.
After about five minutes of pushing through the fans, Nate finally made it to the back door of the venue. He walked through the door, a little out of breath. He leaned against the metal door, and closed his eyes. He was glad to be back in Cleveland, but never knew how many fans he really had in the large city. He lived there for almost two years, and had only a ahndful of fans come and ask for autographs and pictures. It was strange, but maybe they just wanted to give him his privacy no matter how strange that may be. After several moments, Nate pushed himself off the door and made his way into his dressing room. Tonight was the night that Nate would make this show the best of his entire tour. He would sing each note correctly, enunciate each lyric as if it were his last and make each flip perfect. Tonight was going to be the best show of his life, whether he wanted it to be or not.
Nate stared at himself in the mirror for a long time, listening to the music of his opening act. He quickly changed into his first outfit as the last note of the last song rang through the venue. He ran out to where he was to start, mic in hand as he listened to the band's outro before his own intro started. He listened to roar of screaming fans as his music played and his name was called. He rose onto the stage singing the words that were needed, a large smile on his face. It was definatly going to be a great night.

when you look me in the eyes and tell me that you love me Nathaniel was just...beautiful. Keefe used that word sparingly, reserved it only for things that truly deserved it. The boy didn't talk much (although Nathaniel would probably disagree; for some reason unknown even to Keefe himself, he only rarely felt the need to bottle himself up around the older man) and when he did, he wanted to make sure every word counted. He said only what he meant to and refrained from complimenting people; not because he thought himself superior, as most assumed, but because kind terms needed to be earned. To give them easily made them meaningless, pointless, empty as a country road at night.
Nathaniel deserved it. There was no part of him that Keefe didn't like or want. He wasn't perfect, no, but that's not what the slightly-older O'Kane twin wanted. He didn't have to be a Greek god to snatch Keefe's attention, he just had to be Nathaniel. Nathaniel Kennedy, with that dark, wavy hair he could run his fingers through. Nathaniel Kennedy, with those arms he could melt into and find sanctuary from his demons. Nathaniel Kennedy, with those eyes like caramel he could get lost in. Nathaniel Kennedy, with that smile that made him want to smile too no matter what petty disappointment nagged at his brain. Every inch of him fascinated Keefe, whether he meant to or not.
Yes, Nathaniel Kennedy was beautiful, and no other person in the room was more aware of it than Keefe when those stage lights flicked on. The quiet Irishman stood in a shadowed corner backstage, that small, black velvet box burning a hole in his back pocket as he watched his lover appear onstage. He was conveniently placed, hidden from view but able to see most of what was going on. Keefe fidgeted, wanting more than anything else in the world to race out and latch himself onto the older boy. He hadn't seen him in months and he wanted Nathaniel's touch so much that he ached for it, and there it was, so close and yet so very far away...
No, he couldn't reveal himself now. That would ruin everything. He would wait until Nathaniel did their song. Keefe, personally, hated the lyrics with a fiery passion and wished 'their' song was one of his happier tunes. But he knew that "Can't Have You" was important to Nathaniel; it was the first of many songs written with Keefe in mind, and held some sort of sentiment to it that the curly-haired boy could never quite understand. And so he waited, his heart creeping up into his throat with every song Nathaniel went through. What if he forgot what he was going to say? What if he lost his balance when he went down on his knee? What if Nathaniel said no?

He became frustrated by the middle of his set. His perfect night started crumbling after he finished the second song. He went for his first big flip and ended up slipping on the black stage. Of course the twenty-one year old laughed it off, and continued to sing and do what he needed, but he couldn't help but beat himself up. Several more times, Nathaniel made mistakes on stage. He forgot the words to "Hollywood", and "Goodnight and Goodbye". It was as he feared. He was trying to hard to do well, that he was actually making mistakes. As "Can't Have You" crept closer and closer, Nathaniel felt like crawling backstage and into a hole where he would stay for the rest of his life. He wished that Keefe was there with him. He knew that his boyfriend would be able to help him laugh this whole night off, but he had yet to see the younger boy in the crowd, and that just made it worse for him.
When the time for his favorite song came, Nathaniel felt hot tears brimming in his eyes. He was so embarrassed, but knew that he only needed to get through a few more songs before he was able to just disappear and wait for the videos to appear online. Discreetly, Nathaniel wiped his tears away and took a large swig from his water bottle. He turned back to the crowd, his prize winning smile lighting up his face as he thought of his boyfriend and the meaning behind the next song. "Kay, so most of you know of my boyfriend Keefe O'Kane, right? The crowd roared as Nathaniel spoke, and it grew as he mentioned the name of his lover. He chuckled lightly. "Well, two years ago, he and I weren't exactly on the same terms we are now. In fact, he was believed to be straight, and totally out of reach. The crowed "awwed" and Nathaniel nodded. "Yeah, so in my disappointment, I wrote this song for him. Although, before I even had the chance to preform it for him, he actually told me that he loved me, and well... The rest is history. Nathaniel looked down at the floor and chuckled halfheartedly thinking back to that time, with all the drama between him and Key, in the background of the larger drama that was Mac and Barbie, but shook it off.
"Now, I'm not sure if you're actually out there Beautiful, but if you are, I know how much you hate this song, but it's all for you. It always has been." Nathaniel gave a small nod to his band and waited for the intro to finish before he sang his heart out, all the emotion that he felt as he wrote it, plus all of the love he felt for Key, pouring into the crowd as each note escaped from his throat.

when you look me in the eyes and tell me that you love me Nathaniel needed to help. Someone who had never seen the popstar perform before probably wouldn't have noticed at first, but Keefe had seen his lover out under the spotlight before. He knew immediately when things started going wrong; Nathaniel stopped being bright, excited, animated (for he usually was, literally a star in Keefe's eyes) The Irishman watched helplessly as the older boy stumbled, physically trembling with the exertion of holding himself back. He wanted so fucking much to bolt out there and pick him up; that was Keefe's job, his purpose. Keep Nathaniel safe and happy, and everything else would take care of itself.
Keefe may have been blind without his glasses, but he was observant. Even from his somewhat distanced stance backstage, he could tell that Nathaniel was upset. Baby, please don't cry... He was just about to bound out of his hiding place when Nathaniel suddenly shone again. He straightened up and listened eagerly, instinctively when he heard his name mentioned into the microphone. He wasn't sure if he liked the way the crowd responded to the story Nathaniel told, or if it made him uncomfortable that their personal lives were so important to these strangers. It made him smile revisiting some of those memories, but did he really want to share them?
'Not sure if you're out there?' Keefe repeated in the safety of his mind, surprised. Although he'd planned all of this out carefully, he hadn't considered the fact that Nathaniel wouldn't see him out there. He nibbled at his lower lip unhappily, almost sure that Nathaniel wouldn't have been having such a bad night if he knew he was watching. But I am watching! Keefe cried silently, wishing his lover could hear him. He was watching. He was watching, and he was listening. He saw the look, the sincerity in his boyfriend's eyes, heard the genuine clarity in his voice when he began to sing. He saw and heard, and he...oh, God, he was just so in love with him...
He was so caught up in watching that he almost forgot to hook himself up to a mic before the song was over, and by the time he'd gotten everything set up Nathaniel had finished. Keefe's belly suddenly felt full of startled butterflies as he slowly drifted away from his hiding space out on stage, but he made himself be calm as he approached his love. "Why, t'ank ye, Nathaniel. Dat wus gran'. Roi', guys?" It was a gamble, and it paid off when the crowd roared. Keefe started to smile, so nervous and excited and so many other things that he couldn't distingiush one from the other. Fuck! Where should he start? How? "Nigh let me do somethin' for ye, baby..."

As he finished singing the song, the twenty-one year old pop-star has new tears in his eyes, only these were tears of happiness rather than embarrassment and sorrow. He looked out at the crowd, a smile on his face and his breathing heavier than normal. It was the sound of a familiar voice over the speaker system that caused Nathaniel to whip his head around in search of the source of the voice. He searched for the voice for only a moment before his eyes landed on the one man who always seem to make him feel better in the most horrid of situations. Nathaniel blinked a couple of times making sure that this was real, and wasn't just a dream, although he wished in some way it really was. When Key's face didn't dissolve from in front of him, Nathaniel ran and embraced the younger man in a bone-crushing hug. Now he knew it was real.
"What are you doing here?" Nathaniel whispered into Key's ear. He knew what he was doing at the venue, but he was unsure as to why he was on stage. Nathaniel let go of his boyfriend and stared at him for a moment. He put the microphone to his lips a little confused. "And what would that be lover?" He asked in a calm voice, but his body shook, a little nervous, but at the same time a little excited. He wondered what the younger boy had hidden up his sleeve, but he was also afraid to know. Nathaniel didn't even bother to look at the crowd anymore. He was too entranced with the Irish boy in front of him that always caught his eye in a large crowd. Although it was embarrassing, Nathaniel even sometimes mistook Keefe's twin for him when they were on their first tour together, but didn't act on anything that he knew would hurt his boyfriend.
To Nathaniel, it only felt like him and Keefe on that stage. The roar of the crowd had faded away, and he didn't even think his band was on stage anymore. He was only focused on Keefe, and that's all that mattered to him. The man whom he loved was there right in front of him, making all his mistakes from before fading into a distant past that he hoped he would never have to re-live again.

when you look me in the eyes and tell me that you love me Keefe just grinned at Nathaniel as the other boy stared at him, the biggest he'd smiled in months. In all honesty, Keefe disliked his smile; it seemed off to him when he looked at himself in the mirror. Usually he refrained from letting it go, but Nathaniel made him feel comfortable about himself. The Irishman tossed his arms open for the popstar as soon as he realized a hug was coming, gripping at the other boy just as hard. Oh, Jesus Christ, he'd missed holding Nathaniel so much...it was all he could do to keep tears of sheer joy from fogging up his glasses. He didn't care that he couldn't breathe. He just wanted his boyfriend as close as possible.
When Nathaniel's breath tickled over his ear, it was all Keefe could do to keep from melting into the popstar. Fuck, it'd been far too long since he'd felt someone like that, much less Nathaniel. He'd missed laying in bed with the older boy and feeling that same warm air slip over his skin; he slept little even with Nathaniel close, and almost always woke up before him. But he just smiled mysteriously in response, resisting. His boyfriend would learn his intent soon, and with any luck he'd be just as thrilled as he hoped he'd be. But he was so nervous, his shoulders tense and his heart thumping crazily in his chest. "Jist a wee somethin' dat Ah've been t'inkin' aboyt a lot lately."
Keefe hadn't practiced any speech of any kind. That would make everything seem fake. Just tell him what ya' feel, eh? he thought to himself, glancing out toward the crowd, suddenly feeling every pair of eyes watching him. They weren't supposed to know what he had in his heart, just Nathaniel was, but..."Listen, baby. Ye 'enny got any idea 'oy good 'tiz ter see ye again. Ah've missed ye so much while you've been gone, wi' de 'ouse empty an' de bed cowl..." The words suddenly jumped out of his heart straight into the air, unfiltered and sincere. He paused a moment there to touch Nathaniel's face, oh, that face he'd pictured every night before he went to sleep.
"Oi love ye, Nathaniel..."

He was really all that Nathaniel wanted. The dark curly hair, the piercing brown eyes, those plump pink lips. It was a wonder that Nathaniel didn't have him undressed and pinned under him the moment that he saw him, but Nathaniel knew that he had to refrain from doing such things. He watched as the younger boy tensed up, and knew that something was up. He wanted to ask, but knew that it make come in due time. Maybe it was the thought of hundreds of people watching him, or maybe it was something completely different.
He listened as Key spoke, but became confused. Thinking about a lot lately? He wasn't reconsidering their love, was he? No, he couldn't. Not after two years. It hurt him enough in the beginning when he believed Key didn't love him, he'd be devastated if he were to find out that Key never loved him in the first place.
Nathaniel took another step back from Key, scared as he listened to Key once more. More and more, the American boy believed that his boyfriend was about to end their relationship. Biting his bottom lip, Nathaniel leaned into Key's touch as he heard the three most beautiful words from his lover as he heard in the same Irish accent everyday, but worried more and more for the words that came after. But I can't do this anymore...
Just the thought caused Nathaniel's tears to flow freely from his eyes, but he waited, hoping that what Key had to say was nothing that he didn't want to hear. He wouldn't be able to handle the heart-break, especially with the concert not over. Why did he have to do this on stage in front of his fans?

when you look me in the eyes and tell me that you love me Wait, why was Nathaniel crying? Keefe didn't understand why his boyfriend had a look of complete heartbreak on his face, and it put his already anxious heart that much closer to the edge. Did the older boy somehow know what he was going to ask, and was going to tell him no? He hadn't said anything wrong, had he? Frantically Keefe flipped over every word in his head, checking them once, twice, thrice over. No, he hadn't said anything bad...he brushed aside the salty tears with his fingers, bewildered but determined to find a solution. Nathaniel wouldn't have any reason to cry over what he was about to do. No chance in Hell.
"Oi love ye, Nathaniel, an' de past two years 'ave been de best av me life. Oi want ter spend de rest av me life wit'cha, jist lioke dis," Keefe finished, praying to God that Nathaniel would hear those words, understand just what was going to happen, and stop crying. He needed the popstar to listen to him and listen hard right now; he had one and only one shot at this, and if it didn't work...the O'Kane lad didn't know what he would do. "Oi nade ye, Nathaniel. Oi nade ye ter be wi' me, ter 'owl me, ter kiss me an' love me. 'avin' ye be gone dis whole time 'as shown me dat. Oi nade, want, an' love ye so much it bloody 'urts. Oi-Oi t'ink Oi wus born for ye, love."
He was almost there.

"Oi love ye, Nathaniel, an' de past two years 'ave been de best av me life. Oi want ter spend de rest av me life wit'cha, jist lioke dis," Nathaniel perked up a bit, the words echoing in his mind. It really wasn't all that hard to believe that these past two years had been the best that Keefe had every experienced considering the past he had to deal with. Many times before the twins had come of age, Nathaniel had begged Keefe to turn his father in, to get out of the pain and torture he'd endured throughout his childhood, but he hadn't listened, something that hurt Nathaniel more than anything.
"Oi nade ye, Nathaniel. Oi nade ye ter be wi' me, ter 'owl me, ter kiss me an' love me. 'avin' ye be gone dis whole time 'as shown me dat. Oi nade, want, an' love ye so much it bloody 'urts. Oi-Oi t'ink Oi wus born for ye, love." Nathaniel stared at Keefe speechless. Born for him? Nathaniel really wasn't one who believed in fate, or soulmates. He'd heard Plato's theory of soulmates dozens of times, but he really never believed him. He found it impossible that we were originally made with four arms, four legs and two faces only to be torn apart, doomed to search for our other half our entire lives. It just wasn't possible. Not in Nathaniel's mind anyway.
After a moment, Nathaniel smiled at his boyfriend, wiping the remaining tears from his face. He couldn't believe that he was crying. Not only would be this end up on ET, but he was embarrassed that he was getting so emotional over what he believed to be nothing. Why couldn't Keefe just get it out already. He couldn't take the anticipation anymore. He wanted to tell him to just spit it out, but he was afraid that it would ruin what he was trying to accomplish. The least he could do was hurry it up a bit. Right?

when you look me in the eyes and tell me that you love me Naturally, Keefe had his reasons for not turning his father in to the police. What Nathaniel hadn't realized was that if he told anyone about the abuse and showed them the bruises as proof, they would send him and Cormac away. The only family they had was in Ireland; close as the boys had been to being able to take care of themselves, that was the way of things. They would've left, and it would've taken them years to save up enough money to buy a house of their own and move to the United States. Neither of them had wanted to wait that long, so neither of them told. They'd held on for more than ten years. They could hold on just a little bit longer.
Nathaniel might not have believed they were born to be together, but Keefe did. It just felt right, being with him. The feeling of being in the popstar's arms, even all that time ago, was like he'd discovered something priceless. Precious. He had to hold on to it, even at the cost of his own life. When they kissed, he almost couldn't believe they'd been two separate people a moment before. Nathaniel's lips were too familiar, even when he'd kissed him for the very first time, years ago in that hotel room. Even their bodies semed to fit together in a way that seemed too perfect to be on accident. The thought had occurred to him more than once, so it must've meant something.
Keefe could only keep himself away for so long. Nathaniel was still crying, and his words hadn't really seemed to help much. Why? The O'Kane lad almost begged him to stop out loud, but instead he tried to with his lips. Moving the microphone aside, his heart thudding, he kissed his lover. His touch was soft, gentle, telling the other boy that whatever it was couldn't possibly be bad. "Yer more den Oi cud ever ask for," he said when he pulled away. A smile, calm despite himself, curled the corners of his lips. "But Oi'm gonna anyways." And with that statement, he lifted a shaking hand and tilted it, two fingers extended, looking out to the crowd. Now.
"Will you marry me?"

The anticipation was killing him. It was eating him up from the inside as his stomach churned restlessly in his stomach. If he was going to end it, he might as well do it, but if he wasn't, which his words seemed to portraying, he should just say it. Nathaniel knew that Keefe was stalling, the real question was: why?
Nathaniel watched as Keefe inched closer, his eyes almost black behind the thin rimmed spectacles he wore, and Nathaniel knew that his own eyes were a slightly darker shade of caramel than usual behind his contacts with the lust that pumped through his veins as he looked at his boyfriend, his heart racing just a little faster telling him that he loved Keefe rather than just lusted after the younger male. He welcomed the kiss openly, the roar of the crowd filling his ears, but was unheard by the pop-star. Nathaniel hooked his arms around the younger male's waist, bringing him closer to his body. He knew at that moment that they were being viewed on the jumbo screen behind him, but he didn't care. He was just happy to be kissing his boyfriend, showing the world that their love was real and not something made up by the tabloids.
"Yer more den Oi cud ever ask for, But Oi'm gonna anyways." Not being the sharpest crayon in the box, Nathaniel didn't fully understand what Keefe was saying, the fog in his mind from the kiss not helping very much either. He looked at where his boyfriend was pointing, his heart exploding in his chest and his eyes growing wide as he read the four words on the cards being held up for him. "Will you marry me?" Nathaniel looked back at Keefe, unsure of what to say. "You want me to marry you?" Nathaniel asked, not bothering to use the mic, just pointing his words at Keefe. Did he want to marry Keefe? Of course. Was he ready? He wasn't totally sure.

when you look me in the eyes and tell me that you love me Keefe, ordinarily, hated giving any public displays of affection. It was his business, after all, if he wanted to hold or kiss Nathaniel, not anyone else's. He didn't care who they were; a fan, a friend...Hell, he didn't even think it was really the popstar's family's business. They didn't need to be watching, and they didn't need to take pictures, and they didn't need to videotape it, either. But today was special, and today he would've be happy to let their lips mingle for as long as they could in front of a crowd several times larger. Nathaniel was his life; if that meant close to zero privacy, so be it. It wasn't worth losing the older boy for. Not by a long shot.
Even as Nathaniel's head started to turn to see what he was pointing at, Keefe was engulfed in a sea of doubt. Was this a good idea? What if neither of them were ready yet? What if the cards hadn't been arranged in the right order, - C'mon, you already checked them over at least six times... and Nathaniel didn't get the message? The dreaded question over if his boyfriend would agree or not swept in soon after the others. What if Nathaniel really did say no? What would he do? He couldn't bear it if the older man didn't want to spend eternity with him. His heart would break, he was sure, and there was no coming back from that. He wasn't strong or brave enough. Not like Cormac...
He nearly forgot one of the most important parts of the plan, he was so nervous. Suddenly remembering, Keefe dropped down onto his left knee and fished desperately in his pocket for the ring before Nathaniel turned back to him again. By the time the other man did, he'd managed to find the ring and open the box, presenting the best engagement ring he could afford. "You want me to marry you?" His face fell. Wasn't that part obvious? Then again, the Kennedy man had always been an excellent observer of the obvious. He offered the silver band up to Nathaniel and nodded, forcing a hopeful smile even though he didn't feel it. "Please...Oi wanna take dis step wi' ye..."

The absence of Keefe's face as he turned back, confused Nathaniel for a moment, but a small glint of something shiny caught his attention causing him to look down only to see his boyfriend holding a gleaming silver band up to him. Nathaniel knew that he was being pressured to say the final word. The one that would make or break the love of his life. He wanted desperately to say "yes" the word he knew that not only Keefe craved to hear, but the entire crowd before them: the band, the stage crew, but most of all the fans. Of course they knew that they didn't have chance with their favorite pop-star to become Mrs. Nathaniel Kennedy, but Nathaniel had a chance to be Mr. Keefe Kennedy-O'Kane; something he longed for, but wasn't really able to believe would ever happen.
Nathaniel licked his drying lips as he looked down at his boyfriend. He could see the fear behind the forced smile on the Irishman's face which only made it harder for Nathaniel to move, let alone speak. "Please...Oi wanna take dis step wi' ye..." Nathaniel had to choke back a few tears, placing his hand over his mouth. He was overwhelmed with joy, the look on Keefe's beautiful face, as well as the glint from the ring just made everything just a bit more perfect.
Nathaniel looked back out at the crowd, the fans continuing to hold up the signs, probably waiting for the pop-star's answer. He looked back down at Keefe, taking a deep breath and holding the microphone back up to his lips. He was ready, he knew that he was young, but Keefe was even younger and was the one who'd knelt down on one knee for him, who'd asked him to spend the rest of his life with him. He wanted to be with Keefe forever, even for longer than that. He just couldn't wait. With a short nod, Nathaniel finally spoke, his answer echoing through the entire crowd before the crowd roared even louder than he'd ever heard. "Yes." Forever? Hell, he needed longer than that.

when you look me in the eyes and tell me that you love me Keefe didn't mean for there to be so much pressure on Nathaniel to say yes. He wanted the other man to come to him willingly, without feeling like he had to. Wasn't that what getting married was about, anyway? Finding the one person you know you couldn't live without, the one you'd love coming home to no matter what they looked like that day. The only reason he'd chosen to do it on stage was because he felt that it was important to Nathaniel. Had the popstar chosen a different path in life, such as that of a journalist or something, he would've put the question in the paper. He just needed something that made his love feel comfortable and happy.
Keefe couldn't remember being this terrified of anything in his life. Ever. At home, even when he was very young, he'd been at odds with his father. Finn was much bigger and stronger than him, but that didn't seem to matter now. At school, primary and secondary, he and his brother had come against all kinds of bullies and opponents. There was always so many of them, but it'd never been like this. Hell, he'd even come face-to-face with a fucking serial killer who'd had every intention of devouring him. But this, this right here, looking up at Nathaniel with his heart and soul standing on the edge, was much worse. He just wanted to curl up and be held, reassured he was safe and loved.
Nathaniel was ready. Keefe could see it. He'd made his decision. The spectacled O'Kane felt his heart beating in his throat as his boyfriend lifted the microphone to his lips, the word that would make his life the happiest it'd ever been or break his heart. "Yes." Almost immediately, without a second thought, he grinned. Yes? He leaped up from his kneeling position, a surge of energy, its source completely unknown, making it impossible to not move. Yes! No words were spoken; he couldn't do anything but laugh, unable to hear himself over the clamor of the audience. He threw his arms around the other male, clutching him as tight as he could. He said yes! Holy fuck, he'd said yes...
